I’ve been meeting with some of my business contacts at a number of system integrators recently.
I wanted to understand a bit more about there desire to become more business led and not purely technology focussed. The people that I have met are really on the ball and see this the only way forward for these kinds of companies in to thrive.
However, as there embbeded culture, structure and approach is pretty much tied to technology (and there is nothing wrong with that!), transforming themselves will require a fundamental change in how these SIs work.
Now, I am not saying that these businesses will not survive, but the ones that succesfully transform themselves are going to be more successful or they’ll just by companies that can fill the gaps!
Being a techhie by background and talking with technical people regularly, but make the transformation to be business focussed, I have seen that techhies love technology, but that doesn’t ‘do it” for the business.
Recent meetings with prospects have suggested that a ‘top down’ approach is what they’re looking for. Business Archtecture focus, not technical architecture focus.
Perhaps we will see a transformation but this will require senior management to rethink strategies.
